Describe

Microsoft will provide smooth-style emojis in Windows 11 this week, by rolling out a new optional update to the operating system that includes a number of important bug fixes and new emojis that Microsoft previously showcased during the current year.

Microsoft adds new emojis to Windows 11

The new emojis have a new look, but their appearance is still 11D and not the XNUMXD look that the company promised before. You can compare in the image attached above between the old emojis, and both the XNUMXD emojis (Windows XNUMX) and the XNUMXD emojis that the company was expected to launch in the new update.

Perhaps one of the most notable changes is the company’s replacement of the standard “paper clip” icon (which appears on the far right of the second row) with the Clippy icon that was previously used. Emojis have also been redesigned to have brighter, more saturated colors, but they still lack the 3D look.

Until now, it is not clear to us whether Microsoft will add 11D emojis in Windows XNUMX or not. It is believed that the reason for not adding it may be technical limitations, as Microsoft relies on its own font format used in the Windows system, while Apple uses bitmaps to display its emojis.

However, Microsoft's format has the advantage of being more scalable and having a smaller file size compared to Apple's format. The company explained that the new emoji update will not be present on Windows 10, but will only be available on the new Windows 11 system.
